SCORADyears

Atopic dermatitis (AD, atopic eczema) is one of the most common non-communicable chronic inflammatory skin diseases, affecting 1-7% of the adult population in Europe. It is associated with several comorbidities including autoimmune diseases, cardiovascular diseases, gastrointestinal disorders, obesity, and mental health diseases. One of the most used clinical tools for the assessment of disease severity in AD is the ‘SCORing Atopic Dermatitis’ (SCORAD) score. However, it represents only a snapshot of the disease during a single study visit, which may underestimate the full impact of the disease. A tool is needed to measure the lifetime cumulative disease burden of AD and to predict health risks including comorbidities. Proposed is the SCORADyears model for AD, which, analogue to the pack-years model for smoking, quantifies disease burden by analysing SCORAD values over time. In this project, we want to calculate and in particular validate a SCORADyears instrument as a new tool for disease burden assessments. We initially plan to establish cut-off values for the identification of different disease endotypes and risk groups in terms of mortality, comorbidities, and treatment and disease outcomes as the basis for optimizing early treatment and prevention strategies for AD. Furthermore, we aim to implement and validate the SCORADyears model for the prediction of mortality, comorbidities, and treatment and disease outcomes.
