DIGITAL MEDICINE AND PUBLIC HEALTH

About us

The Digital Medicine and Public Health Group is an interdisciplinary academic unit dedicated to advancing clinically grounded, data-informed, and translational approaches in dermatology and population health.

Embedded in a university medical environment, the group operates at the interface of clinical dermatology, public health, and digital medicine, with a clear focus on medical relevance, scientific rigor, and sustainable structures.

Our work is rooted in patient-centered care and academic dermatology, addressing dermatological diseases in their broader systemic and population-based context.

Our Vision

We aim to contribute to a healthcare system in which digital innovation strengthens — not replaces — clinical expertise.

Through rigorous research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and academic teaching, we seek to develop solutions that improve patient care, promote health equity, and support sustainable progress in dermatology and public health.

Our Approach

We pursue an integrative research strategy that brings together expertise from clinical medicine. epidemiology and public health, data science and engineering

Interdisciplinarity is not an end in itself, but a structured means to address complex medical questions that cannot be solved within disciplinary boundaries alone.

The group combines hypothesis-driven research, clinically validated digital methods  and translational perspectives aimed at improving prevention, diagnosis, and care.

Teaching and Academic Development

Teaching and academic training are core components of our mission. We actively contribute to the education of medical students, physicians, and early-career researchers through research-based teaching formats and interdisciplinary projects.

A particular emphasis lies on fostering critical thinking, scientific independence, and responsible use of digital methods in medicine.

Innovation and Digital Health

Digital and data-based approaches are integrated where they provide clear medical and scientific value. All methods are evaluated with regard to clinical validity, ethical implications, and long-term applicability within healthcare systems.

Our interests include digital dermatology and imaging, wearables and digital biomarkers, population-based analyses of skin diseases and data-supported clinical decision-making.
