Flourishing Skin Europe

It is well established that chronic inflammatory skin diseases such as psoriasis and atopic dermatitis are closely linked to psychological well-being and social functioning. However, research has mainly focused on burden and reduced quality of life, while less is known about what helps people stay well despite their condition.

Flourishing Skin Europe takes a broader perspective by examining psychosocial resources such as value orientations and humor styles and their association with flourishing, a state of psychological well-being, life satisfaction, and sense of meaning. Bringing together perspectives from dermatology, psychology, sociology, and public health, the study aims to understand better how well-being can be maintained in the context of chronic disease.

In this multicenter European study, patients are surveyed across multiple countries using standardized questionnaires. Recruitment has recently started across participating centers in Europe.
The findings aim to provide new insights into how well-being is shaped in the context of chronic skin disease and how these patterns vary across populations and cultural settings. In the long term, this may inform dermatological care and support the development of public health strategies that not only reduce disease burden but also promote well-being in people living with chronic conditions.
